Black onyx is considered a "semi-precious stone" and tends to be a deeper black than a black enamel. Since black genuine onyx is considered to be better, a cost increase should also be expected when opting for the higher end semi-precious stone.
If your budget allows, I would opt for the genuine onyx; however, most guests at an event will not be able to tell the difference unless they take a really close look at the jewelry. With that said, don't feel bad if you are donning your black enamel set at a formal event; it will be our secret ... :)
